It’s Spring Break at Abbeville High this week. Some are headed to the beach or the mountains with family and friends. Some are staying home and hanging around the house, and some are still competing in their respective sports. The varsity baseball team defeated Southside Christian Tuesday night by a score of 12-1. The game was played at SSC and Zach Overholt continued his season long dominance on the mound. Overholt threw five innings, allowed two hits and one earned run while striking out 13 Southside batters. Overholt is now 5-0
on the season with an eye popping 0.51 ERA. Overholt contributed at the plate as well. He was 1-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Matthew Ellis pitched the last two innings and didn’t give up a single hit while striking out four batters. Ellis was 2-5 at the plate with three RBI’s and two runs scored. Bryce Jackson, who leads the team in batting average (.452), RBI’s (13) and stolen bases (8), added to his numbers Tuesday night. He went 2-5 with a triple, three RBI’s and two runs scored. The 3rd ranked Panthers are 9-1 on the season and a perfect 7-0 in Region play. Southside Christian will travel to Abbeville on Wednesday for another Region matchup. First pitch is at 7:30pm.
The Lady Panthers Varsity Softball team has a week to rest-up and refuel for the second half of their season. The last game the Lady Panthers played was on March 27th, a 12-9 loss at Ninety Six. The girls in garnet will be headed toward the coast on Friday as they will participate in the Waccamaw Tournament before coming back to the Upstate to take on Greenwood Christian (April 10th). The next home game for the Lady Panthers is next Thursday (April 12th) versus Ninety Six.
The Panther golf team has had some exceptional individual performances this season. DJ Freese and Tucker Griffin each shot a 43 in their latest match versus Saluda and Brashier Middle College. Griffin Lewis shot a 53 while Parker Santee shot a 55 and Grant Griffin scored a 66. The Panthers overall shot a score of 194 while Saluda shot a 183 and Braisher won the contest shooting 178. The next match for the Panther Golfers will be at Liberty on April 12th.
The 7th Annual AHS Booster Club Bass Tournament Fundraiser will be held at the Hwy 72 – Elberton Boat Ramp on Lake Russell, Saturday April 28th. The tourney starts at safelight and the weigh in is at 3pm.
