Panthers News · A Mixed Bag

Usually our articles focus on one subject, but there is a lot going on right now at AHS so I wanted to touch on quite a few different sports and try to cover it all in one article. The alumni baseball game was this past Saturday. There was not a cloud in the sky and the weather was perfect for a day of baseball. The varsity team beat the alumni handily and a good time was had by all. It was a nice start to Coach Milford’s first season at the helm of the Panthers. The varsity baseball team is traveling to Myrtle Beach this week to take part in the annual Myrtle Beach Invitational Tournament. They will be playing three games starting on Thursday. The season opener is March 6th at Dixie and the first home game of the year will be March 8th versus BHP.

A big congrats are in order for Chandler Smalley. He just won his third consecutive Wrestling State Championship. Coach Glace and the entire wrestling team and staff have done and fantastic job this season. So congrats Chandler!! Another first, and another historical moment for AHS athletics. Back to back to back has a nice ring to it.

Also, congrats to a few young men and one young lady as they were named ALL-REGION in basketball this season. Dre Watt, Jaylyn Shuler and Junior Rapley were named to the All-Region boys team and Kionna Agnew was named to the All-Region girls team. A great job by some outstanding AHS student athletes!

The AHS Varsity Soccer team is undefeated. They beat Lincoln Co. in their first game this season by a score of 3-1. I’ll have a more in depth soccer article coming in the next few days. Until then, congrats to Coach Sabatini and the boys soccer team.
