Abbeville Basketball, christ church · Varsity Boys Start Playoffs


The Abbeville High Varsity Boys basketball team enters into playoff action tonight. The game will be played at home versus Christ Church. The Panthers have secured a #2 seed in the AA Upperstate Playoff bracket. The Panthers, led by head coach Doug Belcher, finished the regular season with a 14-8 overall record and a 8-2 record inside conference play. The Panthers were just one game shy of capturing the region championship. Greenville Charter Tech won the conference with a  9-1 conference record.

The Panthers have had numerous contributors on the hardwood this season. Junior Rapley, Dre Watt, Jahlyn Schuler and JD Moore have been the consistent starters and point scorers this season. The Panthers have averaged 53.4 points per game this season while surrendering 49.8 points per game to their opponents. Junior Rapley is 2nd in the conference with 11.1 points per game. He’s hit 43 three pointers this season and is connecting at 39% from behind the arc.

Christ Church finished third in Region 1-AA with a  13-8 overall record and they were 6-4 in conference play. The Cavaliers averaged 54.5 ppg and gave up 48.8ppg this season. They are the #3 seed in the Upperstate Playoff bracket.
